(빌 2:8)It's been said that "there's no faster track for your soul to find satisfaction than on the path of servanthood." In fact, Jesus himself said, "Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant"(Matthew 20:26). Followers of Jesus should have a servant spirit that always looks "to the interests of others.""자신의 영혼이 만족할 수 있는 길을 찾으려면 섬기는 것보다 더 빠른 길이 없다"는 말이 있습니다. 실제로 예수님은 "너희 중에 누구든지 크고자 하는 자는 너희를 섬기는 자가 되어야 한다"(마 20:26)라고 말씀하셨습니다. 예수님을 따르는 사람들은 언제든지 "다른 사람들의 유익"을 보살피는 섬김의 정신을 가져야 합니다.Sometimes servanthood is poorly understood. While everyone is equal in Christ, not everyone's roles are equal. A servant-minded mother still has authority over her child. A servant-minded CEO never abandons the responsibility to lead. They serve as a channel of his grace to people who are infected with HIV/AIDS, lost in the cycle of poverty, or devalued because of their skin color. And if we follow their reasoning, the results appear obvious ㅡ or at least we're led to think so.텔레비젼에서 소비자들을 위해 설명을 해주면서 행하는 광고를 보면 우리에게 완벽한 신체, 완벽한 수면, 혹은 완전히 청결한 공기를 취하라고 초청합니다. 만일 우리가 그들의 생각을 따라 행한다면 그 결과는 명백한 것처럼 보입니다. 아니 최소한 우리는 결과가 명백하다고 생각하도록 영향을 받습니다.For true followers of Jesus, the results of being "united with him" are obvious. People who have "fellowship with the Spirit" will exercise the same attitude as Jesus Christ. Having been birthed in his love, they love one another. Having received his joy, they seek to complete it by partnering in the gospel's purpose.예수님의 참 제자들에게는 "그리스도와 연합한" 결과들이 명확합니다. First, we must avoid "selfish ambition." And second, we must consider the interests of others. Ultimately, Christians are invited to see themselves as sponges. Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. (Philippians 1:27)오직 너희는 그리스도의 복음에 합당하게 생활하라. (빌 1:27)  Is a corporation wrong to expect its vice-presidents to be dependable ambassadors of the company vision? Is a local church disrespectful of its staff when it expects the church's priorities to be honored? Is Christianity betraying human freedom when it embraces the moral standards of Jesus Christ? The answer to each of these questions is a resounding no.   기업이 자기 회사의 부회장들에게 회사의 비전에 대한 믿을만한 홍보대사가 되어주기를 기대하는 것이 잘못일까요? 지역교회가 교회의 우선 순위대로 일이 이루어지기를 기대하면서 교회의 스태프를 존중하지 않을 수 있나요? 기독교가 예수 그리스도의 도덕적 표준을 수용하면서 인간의 자유를 거부할 수 있나요? 이 각각의 질문에 대한 대답은 단연 아니라는 것입니다.   Followers of Jesus are to conduct themselves "in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. "They are to develop the mind of Christ so that every thought becomes obedient to his truth. They are to emulate the life of Christ, submitting to his will no matter what the cost. They are to stand united with fellow believers in Christlike opposition to Satan. They are ambassadors for themselves; they set their own standards; and their main goal is self-fulfillment. Yet Jesus said, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me"(Matthew 16:24). Perhaps the psalmist best summarizes the worthy life: "Your statutes are my delight; they are my counselors"(psalm 119:24).  오늘날 많은 사람들이 자기에게 몰입된 삶을 살아가고 있습니다. 그들은 자신을 위해 나선 대사들입니다. 그들은 자신의 기준을 내세웁니다. 그리고 그들의 주요 목표는 자기 성취입니다. 그렇지만 예수님은 "누구든지 나를 따라오려거든 자기를 부인하고 자기 십자가를 지고 나를 따를 것이니라"(마 16:24)라고 말씀하셨습니다. 아마도 시편 기자가 합당한 값진 삶을 가장 잘 요약하고 있을 것입니다. I desire to depart and be with Christ ㅡ but it is more necessary for you that I remain ... (Philippians 1:23-24)내가 ... 차라리 세상을 떠나서 그리스도와 함께 있는 것이 훨씬 더 좋은 일이라 ... 내가 육신으로 있는 것이 너희를 위하여 더 유익하리라. (빌 1:23-24)"I'm living like there's no tomorrow ... because there isn't one." Some people say things like this; others actually live by words like these."나는 내일이 없는듯이 살아가고 있습니다. 진짜 내일이 없기 때문입니다." 어떤 사람들은 이 비슷한 말을 합니다. 또 어떤 사람들은 실제로 이런 말대로 살아가고 있습니다. But if there is no such thing as eternity, is there really any value in life? If there is no such thing as a day when I will stand before Jesus, does it really matter how I live? For both questions the answer is "Probably not." According to the Bible, the foundation for the believer's life is the promise of eternal life with Jesus.그러나 정말 영원이라는 것이 없다면, 삶에 어떤 가치가 있을 수 있겠습니까? 만일 제가 예수님 앞에 서게 될 날과 같은 때가 없다면, 내가 지금 어떻게 사느냐 하는 것이 진짜 문제가 될 수 있겠습니까? 이 두가지 물음에 대한 대답은 "아마도 전혀 가치라는 것이 없을 것이며, 어찌 살든 전혀 문제가 되지 않을 것"이라는 것입니다. 성경에 의하면, 신자의 생활의 기반은 예수님과의 영생에 대한 약속입니다.This truth should define our attitude. Whether living with Christ in heaven or for Christ on earth, believers may rejoice that their life is enveloped in his glory. This truth should also define our practice. Christians are not ashamed to claim Christ as Lord. We are committed to fruitful labor for him, and we seek to reveal the joy of faith in him to all people. 이 진리가 우리의 태도를 규정해야 합니다. 하늘에서 그리스도와 더불어 살든, 땅 위에서 그리스도를 위해 살든, 믿는 자들은 자기들의 삶이 그의 영광 안에 담겨있다는 사실을 즐거워 할 수 있어야 합니다. 이 진리는 또한 우리의 실천을 규정해야 합니다. 그리스도인들은 그리스도를 주님이라고 주장하는데 부끄러워하지 않습니다. 우리는 그리스도를 위해서 결실있는 수고를 다하며, 모든 사람에게 그리스도를 믿는 기쁨을 알리기 위해 힘씁니다.Paul's struggle is not between selfish desire and selfless obedience. He is simply torn between two desires that are natural expressions of joy-filled faith. The important thing is that in every way ... Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice. (Philippians 1:18)... 무슨 방도로 하든지 전파되는 것은 그리스도니 이로써 나는 기뻐하고 또한 기뻐하리라. (빌 1:18)It is true that "where God sends reformation, Satan works deformation." What God builds, Satan seeks to destroy. When God leads people forward in his grace, Satan tries to push them back into misery."하나님이 개혁하시는 곳에서 사탄은 훼손한다"는 말이 사실입니다. 하나님은 세우시고 사탄은 파괴하려고 합니다. 하나님이 사람들을 그의 은혜 가운데로 인도하실 때 사탄은 그들을 다시 비참한 상태로 밀어넣으려고 시도합니다.Yet this truth also remains: The forward march of the gospel cannot be stopped! The assaults against the gospel are many. For Paul, they included his imprisonment, envy and rivalry among fellow missionaries, and the use of Jesus' name for self-promotion. The forward march of the gospel cannot be stopped! Satan's goal is to push us back into the cesspool of shame, the dungeon of guilt, the prison of fear. But, to paraphrase a line from a Hollywood movie, that's a "whole lot of ugly coming from a parade of stupid." The forward march of the gospel announces that Jesus bore our human shame, removed our guilt, and freed us from sin's punishment. He daily parades his love in order to nourish life.그러나 좋은 소식이 있습니다. 복음의 전진은 중단시킬 수 없습니다. 사탄의 목표는 수치의 오물통과 죄책의 지하 감옥, 두려움의 감방으로 우리를 다시 쳐넣으려는 것입니다. 그러나 헐리우드 영화에서 나오는 한 대사를 따서 말하자면, 그것은 "우매함의 퍼레이드에서 쏟아져 나오는 완전히 역겨운 것"입니다. 앞을 향한 복음의 행진은 예수님이 우리의 수치를 짊어지셨고, 우리의 죄책을 제거하셨으며 우리를 죄의 형벌에서 해방시켰다고 선언합니다. 예수님은 생명에게 자양분을 제공해주기 위해서 매일 그의 사랑의 퍼레이드를 벌이십니다.Nothing can ultimately stop the forward march of the gospel. The goal of the gospel of Jesus Christ is that believers grow into Christlike maturity. This is a theme repeated throughout the Bible, and it is the essence of Paul's prayer for the Philippian believers.예수님을 따르는 자들 또한 목표 지향적이 되어야 합니다. 예수 그리스도의 복음의 목표는 신자들이 그리스도를 닮은 성숙함으로 성장하는 것입니다. 이것이 성경 전체에서 거듭 주장하는 주제이며, 빌립보의 신자들에 대한 바울의 기도의 핵심입니다.What is Christlike maturity? First, it is a love relationship defined by a growing loyalty to Jesus and his purpose. Second, this maturity demonstrates a growing love for God's truth, which blossoms into insight for Christian life and thought. Finally, it is revealed in the natural passion to live a holy and pure life. In essence, a mature Christian is to be clothed with Christ in mind, heart, and behavior. The Bible teaches that the most joyful life is the one lived in and for the Lord. Sin debilitates, but salvation in Jesus Christ rehabilitates.그리스도를 닮은 성숙함이란 무엇인가? 첫째, 성숙은 사랑의 관계로서 예수님에 대해 그리고 그의 목적에 대해 충성이 자라나는 사람의 관계를 말합니다. 둘째, 이 성숙함은 하나님의 진리에 대한 사랑의 성장을 드러내줍니다. 이 진리가 그리스도인으로서의 생활과 생각에 대한 통찰을 가져다줍니다. 마지막으로, 그 성숙함은 거룩하고 순수한 삶을 살겠다는 자연스런 열정을 드러내줍니다. 본질적으로 성숙한 그리스도인은 정신과 마음과 품행에서 그리스도로 옷 입어야 합니다. 성경은 가장 기쁜 삶이란 주 안에서 주를 위해 사는 삶이라고 가르칩니다. 죄는 쇠약하게 만들지만, 예수 그리스도 안에서의 구원은 회복시켜줍니다.   To be truly human is to set this as your personal goal: to affirm and seek to grow, in God's strength, into the likeness of Jesus Christ(See 2 Corinthians 3:18). For what do you pray? (빌 1:8)There's an old joke that says, "Church would be great if you could just do without the people. "That perspective is significantly different from the one taught by the apostle Paul. For him, church is great because of the people."사람만 없이 운영할 수 있다면 교회는 대단해질 것"이라는 오래된 농담이 있습니다. 그 시각은 사도 바울이 가르친 시각과는 엄청나게 다릅니다. 바울에게는 교회는 사람들 때문에 위대합니다.In fact, the church is the people(1 Corinthians 12;12-27). They are the reason Paul gives thanks to God, and his affection for them mirrors the love of Christ himself. 사실 교회는 사람들입니다(고전 12:12-27). 사람들이 바로 바울이 하나님에기 감사드리는 이유입니다. 그리고 그들에 대한 바울의 사랑은 그리스도 자신의 사랑을 반영합니다. The gospel is about people. The Bible was written so that children, women and men "may believe that Jesus is the Christ" and "have life in his name"(John 20:31). The Bible reveals a world-embracing hope that "a great multitude ... from every nation, tribe, people and language" will stand around heaven's throne and lift praise to Jesus one day (Revelation 7:9). Clearly the gospel is about people. 복음은 사람들에 관한 것입니다. 성경은 아이들과 여인들, 그리고 남자들이 "예수께서 그리스도이심을 믿어 ... 그 이름을 힘입어 생명을 얻게 하려고" 기록되었습니다(요 20:31). 성경은 앞으로 언젠가 "각 나라와 족속과 백성과 방언에서" 나온 "아무도 능히 셀 수 없는 큰 무리"가 하늘 보좌를 둘러 싸고 서서 예수님에게 찬양을 올려 드릴 전세계적인 소망을 계시합니다(계 7:9). 명확히 복음은 사람들에 관한 것입니다.On the one hand, this gospel is exclusive. The Bible states clearly that we are able to enjoy salvation and eternal hope only if we receive Jesus as our Savior from sin. He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. (Philippians 1:6)너희 안에서 착한 일을 시작하신 이가 그리스도 예수의 날까지 이루실 줄을 우리가 확신하노라. (빌 1:6) "I've never felt so helpless." Those were the words of Jim lying on the ice, the pain screaming that his hockey season was over after a hard fall broke his leg in two places. Like Jim, we too must, we too must ask at some point, "Where does my help come from?'"내가 이렇게 무기력하게 느껴지는 경우가 전혀 없었어." 이 말은 빙판에 세게 부딪치면서 그의 다리가 부러짐으로써 그의 하키 시즌을 마감하게 된 짐이 고통스럽게 빙판 위에 드러누워 외친 절규였습니다. 짐처럼 우리 역시 삶의 어떤 순간에 "도대체 나의 도움은 어디에서 오는가"라고 물을 수밖에 없게 됩니다.Often we may feel we are the most helpless creatures. In ourselves, we are powerless to stop sin from breaking us or to keep evil from crippling us. At the same time, we are also the most helped. God's good work in Jesus Christ allows us whose lives are  spiritually broken and crippled to be healed and restored to spiritual health.종종 우리는 자신이 아무것도 할 수 없는 피조물에 지나지 않는다고 느낄 때가 있습니다. 우리 자신의 힘만으로는 죄가 우리를 무너뜨리지 못하도록, 혹은 악이 우리를 넘어뜨리지 못하도록 막을 힘이 없습니다. 바로 그 순간에 우리는 또한 가장 큰 도움을 받습니다. 예수 그리스도 안에서 하나님의 선하신 역사는 영적으로 무너지고 넘어진 우리의 삶이 치유받고 영적인 건강을 회복하도록 해주십니다.          The Lord is the Great physician! Through checkups, prescriptions, and verbal reminders of what it takes to live a long and healthy life, my doctor gives me a good idea where I stand. But in the end, he leaves my life in my hands. The Great Physician, however, is different. God has not only birthed me in grace; he also sustains me in his grace and assumes responsibility to completely transform me by his grace. I thank my God evert time I remember you. Philippians (빌 1:3)내가 너희를 생각할 때마다 나의 하나님께 감사하며 (빌 1:3)I've often been reminded that the gospel message is all about people. I tend to agree, but only if it is first of all about three Persons: the triune God - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Paul reveals that his memory of the Philippian believers leads him right back to their Creator, Savior, and Counselor.종종 나는 복음 메시지가 다 사람에 관한 것이라는 말을 듣습니다. 단 한가지 점만 제외하고는 그 말에 동의하는 편입니다. 복음은 무엇보다 삼위 즉 성부, 성자, 성령 삼위일체 하나님에 관한 것입니다. 바울은 빌립보의 신자들에 대해 기억하면서 곧장 그들의 창조주이시며, 구세주이시며 위로자이신 이를 생각합니다.The gospel begins with the Father, God for us. God revealed his loving character to Moses: "I have indeed seen the misery of my people ... I have heard them crying out --- and I am concerned ... So I have come down to rescue them"(Exodus 3:7-8). The Father then sent Jesus, God with us. Because he deeply loves his people, Jesus offers the invitation: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest"(Matthew 11:28). Today we receive God's love through the Holy Spirit. God in us! The Bible asks, "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?" Then the Bible also affirms for us, "You were bought at a price. Therefore honor God"(1 Corinthians 6:19-20). The Christian gospel reveals the compassion of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit toward all people.복음은 '우리를 위하시는 하나님'(God for us)인 성부에게서 시작합니다. 하나님은 모세에게 자신의 사랑의 성품을 계시하셨습니다. "내가 ... 내 백성의 고통을 분명히 보고 그들이 ... 부르짖음을 듣고 그 근심을 알고 내가 내려가서 그들을 ... 건져내고 ...(출 3:7-8). 그런 다음 성부 하나님은 '우리와 함께하시는 하나님(God with us)인 예수님을 보내셨습니다. 자기 백성을 깊이 사랑하시기 때문에 예수님은 이렇게 초대하십니다:  "수고하고 무거운 짐 진 자들아 다 내게로 오라 내가 너희를 쉬게 하리라"(마 11:28). 오늘날 우리는 '우리 안에 거하시는 하나님'(God in us)이신 성령님을 통해서 하나님의 사랑을 받습니다! 성경은 "너희 몸은 너희가 하나님께로부터 받은바 너희 가운데 계신 성령의 전인 줄을 알지 못하느냐?"라고 묻고 있습니다. 그런 다음에 이렇게 확언합니다: "값으로 산 것이 되었으니 그런즉 너희 몸으로 하나님께 영광을 돌리라"(고전 6:19-20).  Therefore, we can ask, with Romans 8:31, "If God is for us, who can be against us?" Her eyes would dance with joy as we each unwrapped our special gifts. What we were truly privileged to receive, though, was the joy of her heart! 우리 집 막내딸은 어렸을 적에 몇 해동안 크리스마스 때마다 일회용 스티로폼 컵과 접시와 대접을 접착제로 붙여서 그것들을 포장한 후 크리스마스 트리 밑에 선물이라고 갖다 두곤 했습니다.  우리가 받는 그 특별한 선물의 포장을 뜯을 때마다 막내 딸의 두 눈은 기쁨으로 춤을 추곤 했습니다. 그렇지만, 우리가 진짜 받아 누린 것은 막내딸의 마음의 기쁨이었습니다!God delights in giving us his grace and peace. Grace is the announcement that God remembers our sins no more. Peace is the declaration that “there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus”(Romans 8:1). Though we deserve anger and punishment, God delights to embrace undeserving sinners. 하나님은 우리에게 그의 은혜와 평화(평안)를 주시기를 기뻐하십니다. 은혜는 하나님이 우리 죄를 더이상 기억지 않으신다는 선언입니다.  평화는 “이제 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 자에게는 결코 정죄함이 없다!”(롬 8:1)는 선포입니다. 비록 우리는 진노와 형벌을 받아 마땅하지만, 하나님은 무자격자들인 죄인들을 기쁘게 끌어 안으십니다.Paul speaks for many of us when he calls himself the “worst of sinners”(1 Timothy 1:16). We may painfully recall bad choices and their shameful consequences. Sometimes we work overtime to hide our sins. Often we may be overwhelmed by fear of future judgement. It doesn’t have to be like that.
